The Future Is So Bright

New Directions, Same Foundation

Lately, I’ve found myself standing in a really interesting place, one foot planted firmly in what I’ve always loved, and the other stepping into something new.

On the music side, I’ve been working with the band The Gods Themselves on their upcoming album, and I’m genuinely excited about where it’s going. There’s something about being in that creative space, shaping sound, solving problems, chasing moments, that still feels just as electric as it ever did. That hasn’t changed, and it’s not going anywhere. Sound has always been home for me.

At the same time, I’ve started branching out into cybersecurity.

This isn’t a sudden pivot or a departure, it’s more like following a thread that’s been there for a long time. I’ve always had an interest in how systems work beneath the surface, networks, data flow, encryption, threat detection, digital forensics. Things like penetration testing, ethical hacking, and system hardening have always been fascinating to me in the same way audio engineering is, complex systems, subtle details, and constant evolution.

I also had a bit of a nudge to pursue it more seriously, and I’m glad I listened.

It feels similar to music in a lot of ways, you’re analyzing, troubleshooting, building, protecting. It’s a different medium, but the mindset overlaps more than I expected. And just like audio, it’s a field that never sits still, there’s always something new to learn, something new to solve.

The Machine Upgrade

Part of this new chapter came with a pretty significant upgrade, a new computer.

This one replaced my main recording machine, which made it a tough purchase to justify. That setup has been a workhorse for me. But after spending time reinstalling everything and getting it dialed in, I can say without hesitation, it was worth it.

The speed alone is a game changer. Sessions load faster, processing is smoother, and latency has dropped in a way that you can actually feel while working. It’s not just incremental, it’s noticeable in every interaction.

And the silence.

This thing is silent. Not “quiet for a computer”, just… silent. No hum, no distraction. It disappears into the room, which is exactly what you want when you’re working with sound.

It’s already proving its value, both for music production and for diving into cybersecurity tools and environments that would have pushed my old system to its limits.

Looking Ahead

Right now, I’m in that rare overlap where everything feels new again.

There’s the excitement of working on a new album, helping shape something creative and alive. And there’s the excitement of learning, stepping into cybersecurity and expanding into a whole new domain.

It’s a good place to be.

I’m not leaving sound behind, not even close. If anything, this just adds another layer to how I approach problem-solving and creativity. Different tools, same curiosity.

I guess like Timbuk3, I gotta wear shades.
